from the Austin-American Statesment
"HOUSTON
Deposed closer Brad Lidge had two successful outings in the three-game series. "His mechanics are a whole lot better and I think his confidence level is up," manager Phil Garner said. "I think he has a very clear idea what he wants to do and I think he's back on track." Dan Wheeler is 5-for-5 in save opportunities with 10 consecutive scoreless innings over his last eight appearances. "
Still, i don't see lidge being the Cl in Houston anymore, at least not this season. Maybe on another team.
Thanks! I'm kinda lazy.

I'd say you're misinterpreting. To me, Garner is simply saying Lidge has a clear idea of how he wants to pitch, and he's getting it done. He wouldn't cut down Wheeler like that in public while he's still the closer.

what I don't understand is that if the team is playing well and Lidge is doing better in the set up role and Wheeler is doing well as closer, why would the manager mess with that?
If Lidge suceeds more in that role, why not keep him there for the good of the team?

Exactly. Wheeler's not coming out until he screws up. The longer between now and a blown save, the longer his leash gets. What better setup man could you have than Brad Lidge?
