Mauer headed to the DL

Mauer’s likely headed to the DL
Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Joe Mauer had an MRI of his left leg this morning that confirmed a strained left quad. There’s a lump in his leg, plus a little bleeding. So the Twins likely will place Mauer on the DL after the game and call Chris Heintz up from Class AAA Rochester.

It’s another blow to a Twins team that been taking a lot of shots lately. But this one, of course, is huge because Mauer is a .353 hitter who plays a vital position on the field. With the other injuries and a slumping Justin Morneau, the Twins are a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

Mike Redmond will handle most of the catching duties. If something happens to him, Luis Rodriguez will put on the gear and make things really interesting.

Mike Redmond, huh.... I need a C for the next few weeks as Piazza is out. I grabbed Bengie Molina off the wire. Anyone with a thought on Redmond vs Bengie as a 2 week replacement?

Craptastic. Any idea how long Mauer's out, with this type of injury? A week? Two? More?
