LAA interested in Atkins?

Postby vladrules » Sun May 06, 2007 12:37 pm

Saw this on Rototimes.

Garrett Atkins, 3B, Colorado Rockies Sunday 5/6, 7:36 AM CT
The Angels have expressed interest in acquiring Garrett Atkins from the Rockies, according to the Denver Post. The Angels likely would have to deal someone like Ervin Santana to make it happen. However, the Rockies reportedly view Atkins as part of their core going forward, so it's unlikely a trade will be consumated. The Angels are desperate to replace the injured Garret Anderson and are looking around the league to add a bat to their lineup. Other names mentioned include Brad Hawpe and Jeff Baker.

Doubt COL parts with him but COL has good young hitters so you never know.
I just got him in a trade and I'll hate it that he leaves Coors. But if he hits behind my guy Vlad then yippee!

I know this is about Atkins, but Santana is only any good at home in LA so please don't ship him off. :,-( That is all.

That seems silly considering Wood is clearly their 3B of the future, unless the move was just for the year.

He's not good at home, he's fantastic at home, and a pile of poo on the road.

I believe Atkins natural position is 1st base though. I don't think they'd have a problem slotting him in there.

I really doubt the Rockies will be parting with Atkins anytime soon. He is part of the core group that the Rockies have right now, and they control him for I believe three more years.

I wouldn't be that surprised to see someone like Baker, Stewart, Koshansky, or Hawpe go however.

I doubt they trade him, but we'll see what happens.

I shudder at the thought of E. Santana's home field being Coors Field. I would think his home splits would suffer accordingy making him all but useless.

Angels are definitely interested in shipping off a pitcher + whatever for a good hitter though. It definitely has to happen and I think they'll bite this year.
