Can stereotypes ever be justified?
I mean if you were to meet somebody in a dark alley.
a)a Caucasian full of tattoos, piercings and is 6-5 300lbs
b)a Caucasian that wear glasses, is Tim Lincecum's size
Which makes you more afraid and is it justified?
For me, stereotypes and probability are closely linked. I think stereotypes get a bad rap, all stereotypes aren't negative. It helps people understand the world around them. How the hell are you suppose to know everything about a person right when you first meet them? You have to piece things together to get some sort of understanding. As with everything else in life, going to an extreme is where people run into problems (ex. this video- stereotypes consume their life). Once you get to know a person, stereotypes begin to fade and a personal relationship is built.
As for your question, the larger caucasian probably has the greater probablity of doing some damage, so I think being more guarded around him would be justified.
