Joel Zumaya was taken to the hospital after he "felt something pop" in the middle knuckle of his pitching hand while warming up Saturday.
"He threw a pitch in the bullpen, a fastball, and this joint, this (middle) knuckle, he felt something pop," said manager Jim Leyland. "He's being checked out at the hospital. That's all the information I have for you at this time." Losing Zumaya would really hurt, but at least the Tigers have been getting better work from Fernando Rodney lately, leaving them with a couple of reliable late-game relievers.

Tigers placed RHP Joel Zumaya on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 2, with an injury to his right knuckle.
The Tigers wasted no time at all here. The assumption is that Zumaya has a dislocated knuckle. If so, he figures to miss at least a month. The bigger problem would be if he also tore a ligament in the process. That might double or triple the length of his absence.
