What determines a save?

A save occurs when a relief pitcher, non starter, does one of the three things:

1. He comes into the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one full inning, to end the game.
2. He comes into the game with the potential tying run either on base, at bat, or on deck.
3. He pitches "effectively" (usually for at least three innings) after entering the game with a lead.

So how did Cordero of Milwaukee get a save tonight....He only threw 1 pitch to 1 batter with 1 guy on base with Milwaukee up by 3 runs?

They were up by 3, 1 man on with the potential tying run in the on deck circle. Number 2 that I listed.

I always thought that the tying run had to be at the plate and didn't see that in your statement. That really stinks that a guy can only throw 1 pitch and get credited with a save...especially when I am playing against him.

Yeah I know what you mean, that always seems to happen to me too. It's extremely frustrating. I'm playing a team of scrubs this week and I'm getting beat offensively for the first time all year. Fantasy can drive you crazy. Good luck man.

That's funny. I have Cordero. But the kicker is I have Saito as well. Look at how he got the save. I laugh, my opponent screams in disqust!!!

9th inning
score is 6-1
bases are loaded
tying run in the on deck circle
Siato gets the save

it seems odd but yes . . . this is a save because the pitcher entered the game with the tying run in the on deck circle.
