Soriano No Save?

Postby tooslim73 » Sat May 05, 2007 9:46 am

After Smoltz exited, Mike Gonzalez and Rafael Soriano combined to keep the Dodgers scoreless over the final two innings. Soriano's perfect ninth earned him his third save and preserved the importance of the two-out, two-run doubles supplied by Brian McCann and Jeff Francoeur.

Yahoo didn't credit my team for a save, is 4 runs too many?

I thought it was 5.

to get a save you have to come into the ball game with a lead of no more than three runs

For a more in depth definition ESPN defines it as:

Sv Saves. Earned when a pitcher finishes a game without having given up the lead after entering in a save situation (see SvOp, below, for definition)
SvOp Save opportunities. When a pitcher 1) enters the game with a lead of three or fewer runs and pitches at least one inning, 2) enters the game with the potential tying run on base, at bat, or on deck, or 3) pitches three or more innings with a lead and is credited with a save by the official scorer
