I'm sorry, but I don't think this is a path you want to start down. If this happens, what's next? Maybe I should try and get the Japanese Maple in our back yard person status just in case we move so the new owners don't uproot it to some dump with unsustainable soil. Come on, it's an individual, you just have to look it in the root to see that. ;-7

This seems like the wrong way to try to solve this problem. I'm sure there's some other thing these activists can do to care for these chimps. I think moving away from the legal binary of human or thing would cause more problems than it would solve.

What I make of it it's just a cheap stunt to give the whole matter some attention (beyond "donate for our pretty chimps"). Seems to work, though. :-b
