I most likely won't see it in theaters, and probably not on DVD, but I find the release date interesting. At first I thought they were crazy having it open on the first weekend of May, but after thinking about it more, it seems like a genius move. It's the type of movie that will have a huge opening weekend no matter what, but now you add into that the fact that there's really not much competition for it, and it should dominate the next couple of weeks. Then, just as the box office numbers start to wane, it'll get a huge boost from memorial day weekend, which will lead into the summer movie season. I'm guessing it will gross $400 million plus domestically, and I'll be absolutely flabbergasted if it comes in under $300 million.
Unless, of course, the movie sucks, in which case...all bets are off.
I'm going to see it tomorrow, but have absolutely no expectations. I thought the first two Spiderman movies were just ok. Most big budget, special effects driven movies are worth watching on the big screen.

And I'd venture to say the producers would agree, since they spent $300M to make it.
I was talking about domestic box office. If it didn't make a dime in US box office it will still make $500 million in overseas box office, dvd sales, pay per view, mcdonalds/taco bell/pizza hut/coke/pepsi/whatever promotions, and merch sales.

same here, there's too many cheesy, feel-good moments for my liking (like the "you mess wit Spiderman you mess wit New York" bridge scene in part 1 or the "helping hands" subway scene in part 2) but i will still go see it, just not sure if this weekend or not
