Well, seeing as they didn't rest him enough last year, and they wound up shutting him down on Sept. 1st, ;-D .

The guy has 8 saves already. It probably made the Red Sox a little cautious when Pap got knocked around the other day because he is usually so automatic. However, even the elites get lit up every now and then. The guy, even after the blow up, has an ERA of 1.74.

Obviously, Francona is being cautious with Papelbon, especially after Tuesday's outing where his velocity wasn't there.

AHHHH. I need Papz right now! I'm basically relying on Al Reyes for my saves *sighs*

So, the next time a SV opp comes up, we're going to be seeing Papz and not Timlin, yeah?

Here we go with everyone on the forum overreacting. The Red Sox are CLEARLY being cautious with their closer. If they can keep him as fresh as possible throughout the year so that he can perform through the playoffs, they're going to do it.

Timlin is on the DL as of yesterday. I think they just gave the kid some extra rest. I have Paps and was dissapointed he wasnt in there but if it helps him stay up past Sept 1(like lkast year) I am all for it.

Last year they were out of contention by September. They're making a run this year though. They don't want to risk overusing him and tiring him out for the playoffs. If they have a servicable option to vulture a couple of saves during the year then that's a perfect scenario for him. They're doing the right thing by not overtaxing Papelbon's arm.

Geesh, its early May... maybe a bit too early to be saying they're making a run for it. Or maybe more accurately, just about every team is making a run for it right now...
