So, here's a kid with a 2.79 ERA, a WHIP of 1.10, and 26Ks in 29 innings. This becomes even more impressive when you consider that, in his past 4 starts (against the Braves, Phils (twice) and Mets), he's gone 25.1 innings, allowing 6 runs, 11 hits, and 10BB while striking 25 out.

Folks, that's just nuts. Sure, he's unlikely to get you wins, but he's got a good pitching park and a good defense behind him, and as long as he keeps missing bats, he should be money. Note that he hasn't even gotten a chance to face the weaker-hitting rest-of-the-NL yet.

It's looking more and more like he'll be a solid option in deeper leagues and if he keeps the Ks up, maybe even in shallower ones as well.

Agreed but something just won't allow me to pick him up. I just can't bring myself to do it even though I know I may regret it if I don't. :-o

It's the impending doom factor...knowing that it's fully possible that some night he's going to go out and walk 9 guys in 2 innings and give up a dozen runs.

Oh, I have him starting this week, so it might come soon.

Kidding aside, he's way to unproven to be taken seriously in a "normal" league still I think. I am only starting him in a relatively deep NL-only.

My deep NL only allows 5 starters and 4 relievers.
i star he and Lohse as rp's getting 7 starters. My ratios may eventually take too much and I'll have to peel 'em back, until then I get extra k's and an occasional w.

I just sold Igawa for cash and then grabbed Bergmann off the WW for free because he has dual RP/SP eligibility in my league. I'm hoping he's just better than Igawa was.

I'm thinking of stashing him on my roster maybe throw him in my minors he has the cubs next so he might get hit around or not who knows. But I think i'm going to pull him in now and take the chance. ;-D

I was thinking about dropping him for Zach Greinke. What do you people think? I have Wainwright and Grienke. Is Bergmann a better option?

Today's outing is basically what I figured to get from Bergmann. He won't fair too well against good offenses, and I definitely wouldn't start him in hitter's parks. I think he'll be good to run up at home and against any scrub offense.

That said, I am a little shocked that he doesn't have more Ks today.
