Does E. Santana booze up on the road or what?

Postby ZAZ » Thu May 03, 2007 9:24 am

I now I'm probably not telling anyone anything new here about Ervin Santana and his home vs road performances, but it's just amazing me. How can he be so good at home and so bad on the road and keep this up for so long? Is he out getting boozed up at the hotel bars while he's on the road? Maybe his wife (if he has one) has to travel with him.

With my league we pick pitchers and have to live or die with them so I can't sit him on the road (no one in the league has time to to make decisions on a daily basis about pitching). Anyway, this post isn't much of a question and more of a rant but if anyone has any clue why this is with Santana, I'd love to hear it. I mean I've seen splits before but this is ridiculous with Santana.

Actually I just went and read a bit more on his start last night and have to modify my criticism some, he actually pitched ok last night on the road it seems. Nevertheless, it's still amazing that he can't seem to win on the road and does so well at home.

I put last night's debacle on the manager...Santana gave up 10 H and a BB in 6 IP (brutal) and they trotted him out for the 7th...he then gave up a single, got a guy out, hit a guy, then served up a gopher ball (his pitch count was 105+)...what the hell? He obviously didn't have it last night (as always on the road), but why not take him out to start the 7th...or at least after he hit the guy? His confidence on the road needs to be built back up and if the bullpen could've come in and save the day...so to me last night was on the manager.

I took a risk on him starting him yesterday cause he was playin the Royals. He was doing good until that 7th inning :-t

it really is remarkable to look at his home and away splits

his home away split in 372 career IP is this
home: 21-5 218 IP, 151 K, 3.01 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, .226 BAA
away: 9-15 154 IP, 115 K, 6.66 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, .292 BAA

is Anaheim really that much of a pitchers park?
