Anyone know if the Cubs have changed their mind about him being their starting shortstop? Or was this just a routine day off?

I just dropped Freel for him, but obviously that's only worth it if Theriot plays every day.

They've never commited to him as a SS. Actually, I'm surprised they played him as much as they did, because they've been pretty convinced that they need Izturis or Cedeno's glove in the lineup. As a Cub fan, I would love to see him out there more, but right now he is just a backup infielder/outfielder. The good news is that he probably won't get sent down when they call up Guzman, because they need the backup infielders, so an outfielder will probably get sent packing (most likely Pie).

He's unlikley to be an everyday player at this point still. All Lou committed to was starting him there during the STL series last weekend. Him being the permanent SS was a bit overblown I think onthe cafe. I still think he'll play at least half the games every week, but you gotta be on your toes checking the lineups each day.

The good thing is that he is the only 3B backup, and Ramirez is bound to get hurt at some point. Also, he can backup SS, 2B, and RF, so I think he could get in the lineup at least 4 out of 6 games a week.

Its just silly that he doesnt play everyday....to have him out in back to back games for guys like DeRossa, Murton & Izturis is a joke.

Actually those ABs were across two games as follows:

In completion of the suspended game, he was put in the lineup during a double switch and then hit a double.

In todays game, so far, first ab was another double, second ab was a K.
