Great baseball player names

Postby ordinarygenius » Tue May 01, 2007 4:10 pm

I've always believed that a pitcher known as Bob Walk must have given some thought to changing his name.

At the other end, how great it must be to be Cecil or Prince Fielder.

Do you know of any other major league players whose names (not nicknames, 'cause those would often be too obvious, like Homer Bailey) are/were perfectly suited or unfit for baseball? If so, let's have fun sharing them.

I actually have a great baseball name. However, I honestly sucked at baseball and football and basketball were my sports. Something about not being able to hit curve balls killed me. My name even went with the position I played when I didn't pitch. Oh well, what a waste.

My favorite MLB name growing up was Dickie Thon. I used to laugh a little every time I turned the page past the Astros in my card notebook.

Fat Lever was another great 1980s basketball name.

Footall players also have some great names like Boss and Champ (or maybe it is just the Bailey family :-? ).
