According to the Toronto Star, Dustin McGowan will replace Gustavo Chacin in the rotation and start Thursday against the Indians.
McGowan sports a 1.64 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 22 innings at Triple-A. He's getting the nod over Josh Towers, who was recently removed from the rotation in favor of Victor Zambrano. (rotoworld)
Any thoughts on him? He's been one of the Jays' top pitching prospects for years and is off to a solid start this year. Projections? Will he stick?
He has had a pretty rough ride in limited time in the majors--hasn't been able to translate his supposed talent into big league success. Maybe he's ready to make the transition, maybe not. Probably not. Either way, I'd have to see several good performances before I even began to think about him as a viable option in anything but the deepest of leagues. However, if he pitches well, it wouldn't take a huge stretch of the imagination to see him stick with the big club and have Zambrano move back into the 'pen.
He has pretty good stuff. The only problem is ever since TJ surgery he hasn't been able to locate it. From looking at the boxscores of his starts in AAA this year he seems to be walking less batters, so hopefully this means he has regained a bit of control. Also, I believe that once they call him up he must stick with the team or they risk loosing him.
I think he has the potential or at least the stuff to be a number 1 pitchers, but I doubt he will ever reach that ceiling. IMO if he gains consistent control he could be a number 2.
He's got the stuff. Question is whether he'll ever put it all together. He looked got sporadically last year, so my advice would be to wait for him to have a couple good starts before you put him in. (But feel free to add him. )

His control has been excellent thus far in the minors and was the source of his problems in the majors. Some guys take longer to recover from TJ than others.
McGowan seems like one of those forever prospect types.. you hear his name all the time among the top minor league prospects, then he gets called up a few times and gets nailed around each time..
I dunno, I know there were injury concerns before, and I'd like to see him do well, but he's reached the stage where I really need to see something out of him before I believe in him..
You've got a diamond, You've got nine men You've got a hat and a bat, And that's not all..

Brandon Phillips and Larry Broadway are 2 other guys from the Expos organization that's experiencing the samething. Broadway went from the #1 Expos prospect to #3 to #6 to #10
