BTW- Do any of you remember the last person we saw on screen before it went black?

It was Tony. He looked up when the bell on the door went off.

I was a few episodes behind thanks to baseball season. Finally got done watching them today. All in all the final season was my least favorite although I thought the ending was fantastic. I really didn't like the way the Christopher thread was resolved and I was very unhappy that they didn't tie up Silvio's story. Well in my version of the Sopranos he recovered and is very successful. :D

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

I loved the show but I have mixed feelings about the ending. I'm gonna have to watch it again too, some things were tied up, others left up in the air.

Just got this email from a friend and thought it was fit for this thread....

Ok I can't take credit for this one, a friend just fwd'd this to me, but it is EXCELLENT!! I'm very angry I couldn't figure this out myself...but whatever. This one should put everyones angry thoughts to rest. Ahh the genious of The Sopranos...See below. You can thank me later :)

He was killed....
>
>in fact, the ending was genius if you've paid attention to the show or are just a fan of well developed well thought out plots that all tie together and have the memory of a champ to remember it all
>
>the ending was simple, he got killed, but let me tell yall why and explain in detail... There was 3 people in the room total who had a reason to kill tony.....
>
>the two black guys, they were paid before to kill tony but he was only shot in the ear, this was in one of the earlier seasons,
>
>also in the earlier seasons, the trucker who was sitting at the bar stool, who the camera kept focusing in on, is Nikki leotardo, Phil Leotardos nephew, he was in one of the early season episodes where Phil and Tony have a sit down....
>
>heres where the genius comes in....
>
>When tonys walking in the diner, you see the camera focus on him, then it switches to his perspective, and you see him looking @ the booth hes gonna sit at...
>
>then the camera switches back to tonys face, then it once again switches to his perspective, and it shows him looking @ the door and looking @ the people come in..... Everytime the door opens the Chimes sound....... Carmela walks in, Chimes, AJ walks in Chimes, this when Meadows parallel parking, still trying to get inside the restaurant....
>
>at this point the camera switches back to the trucker who goes in the bathroom......
>
>Then it goes to a scene where meadow finally parks and starts running in the diner....
>
>the doors about to open, Tony looks up....
>
>and No Chimes......................
>
>No Music............
>
>Everything just goes black...............
>
>In one of the early episodes of the sopranos, tonys talking with bobby about what it must feel like to die..
>
>Bobby says "at the end, you probably dont hear anything, everything just goes black"
>
>part of that was revisited in the second to last episode during the last seconds of it, when tonys about to go to sleep and he flashes back to the memory of him and bobby on the boat... "You probably dont hear anything everything just goes black"
>
>so in the end, the Journey song was playing, the chimes on the door sounded but when meadow came in, the guy in the trucker hat came out and killed tony...
>
>its the reason you aint hear, or see shit when he died.... it was from his perspective.... and everything went black, then the credits rolled.

I thought this too, after watching a second time; oh and heard the bell or chime when Meadow made it in, then it cut to Tony, then black.

"The Members Only Guy IS STEVE PERRY! He’s not listed in the credits (only speaking parts get a credit line, per actor’s guild rules) but I would put money on that he was Steve Perry. Nice job."

In the scene on the boat in Canada, Bobby never says 'everything just goes black'. Lorraine Bracco (Dr. Melfi) said this recently in an interview but she misquoted the script.

Edit: Reading that blog you posted, I like the theory that the viewer is the one getting whacked even if that author doesn't. ;)

Yea, I agree. It's a different take.

Tell your friend that he's wrong. There was a chime when the door opened at the end. That's why Tony looked up.

FWIW, I think that they left the ending open so that the viewers could make their own ending. That is for the viewers and Chase, who may make a movie out of it.
