on a side note, I think it is a shame that MLB charges you to listen to the re-broadcast.
That is very annoying. I was ready to listen to the broadcast but then it's asking for my "login"... Not cool. Archive media, especially of that historic nature should really be free.
Overrated? I don't think I've ever heard that word in the same sentence as Nolan Ryan. Not that you aren't entitled to think so, but the man did fan nearly 6,000 batters. That's fairly incredible, don't you think? Sure he played for 27 seasons, but still, that's amazing, man.

Both have some pretty good arguments why Nolan Ryan is so overated by many fans.
Nolan Ryan was an above average pitcher for a very long time, but he was never as good as people made him out to be.

I guess you are being sarcastic...
My statement wasn't exactly accurate. I realize there are some out there who overrate him, but generally, most of the people I talk baseball with feel he's loved just about as much as he should be. That's sort of why I made my comment, though I'd re-word it if I could. I should have said, "I rarely hear people rate him higher than top 10-15"
Amazing indeed. He threw two of them in one year (1973). I remember watching him on TV as he no-hit my beloved Dodgers in 1981.
However, I wonder what everyone here thinks about the claim that Satchel Paige threw over 50 no-hitters during his 20-year career in the Negro Leagues. The stats for those leagues back then are somewhat dubious as was the competition on some occasions, but there seems to be no disagreement that Paige was the most dominating pitcher of that time and surely threw more than 7 no-hitters. He once pitched in 29 games in one month and at age 59, threw three 3 scoreless innnings against the Red Sox. Joe DiMaggio once said that he was "The best and fastest pitcher I've ever faced."
