Wickman on DL

Wickman is out due to a strained back. Seems like one of those injuries no one knows how long he'll be out for.

I know. I feel like this is just an excuse for pitching poorly, a la Mussina.

GOD I'm pissed. I drafted K-Rod, BJ Ryan, and Wickman in a 12 teamer thinking I would be great in saves.

With Ryan and Wick both gone, I'm VERY glad I traded for Jenks a few days ago.

Who would you rather have? Soriano or Turnbow? My league rewards for Holds. I already have Cordero, so I was using Turbow for K's, Holds and in case Cordero goes down. Not sure what to do.

soriano should be ranked above most MRs now. he was a preseason top-5 MR anyway because of his ridiculous career numbers.

I am going to try to risk it and see how Phil Hughes does in his next start. I have him, but if he struggles again I may be apt to dump him for Soriano. The only reason I am not dropping Turnbow right quick is he is getting ridiculous K/9 stats and a bunch of holds....those are golden in my league (especially holds...no one seems to really go for holds, so I am able to win that Cat week in and week out)

As for Soriano, he has definitely looked like the best candidate to fill the closer's role. He hasn't allowed a run in 11 of the 13 appearances he's made this year, and the two games in which he allowed runs were ones in which he entered with the Braves holding a lead of at least five runs.

Mike Gonzalez was credited with a win after pitching a perfect ninth in a 2-2 game Monday against the Phillies.
Manager Bobby Cox wouldn't name a closer with Bob Wickman out. It looks like he'll pick from Gonzalez and Rafael Soriano based on matchups. Gonzalez should probably be viewed as the favorite for saves, though the Braves need to be careful not to overuse him. He's pitched three times in four days, so perhaps Soriano will get the call in a save situation Tuesday.
