Cardinals
Updated: 1/9/03

The Post-Dispatch reported Cardinals GM Walt Jocketty continued to pursue a starting second baseman, adding he was aware the Orioles had both Jerry Hairston Jr. and Brian Roberts.

Mets
Updated: 1/11/03

The Bergen Record reported members of the Mets organization believed owner Fred Wilpon could be convinced to use the $10 million to $11 million that had been ticketed for Vladimir Guerrero on trying to sign Greg Maddux. Guerrero agreed to terms with Anahiem.

Orioles
Updated: 1/11/03

The Baltimore Sun reported the money the Orioles saved on Vladimir Guerrero will eventually go to good use. Team insiders said Baltimore probably won't pursue free agents Ivan Rodriguez and Greg Maddux, unless their prices hit rock bottom. Instead, like many teams, the Orioles are already looking ahead to next fall's free-agent class, with Carlos Beltran, Magglio Ordonez and Kerry Wood heading the list.

WHOA WHOA WHOA.... Wait just a second...

I hope they don't think they are going to actually get Kerry Wood next year. The Cubs will lock him up for a 4-year contract this week. Kerry is an entity in Chi-Town.

I've read that Wood wants to pitch in Texas after next year. :-)
