Where have you gone, Robinson Cano?

I stuck my head and grabbed this guy as the 1st 2B taken in the re-draft rounds in my keeper league. (6 kept per team).

He has rewarded me with being the 4th worst owned 2B so far, and one of the guys behind him (Kendrick) has been DLed for awhile now. Seven FA 2B have scored more than Cano.

He only has 4 extra base hits and a terrible .349 slg - his OBP is even worse, .323. How much longer do I hold ship with him? I gotta activate Glaus from the DL, and either Cano or Khalil Greene have to go. Thank God I have Weeks, but his avg has plummeted lately.

When he hit 15 HR, 41 2B, in only 450 AB as a 23 yr old last yr, I was hoping for a 30 HR season given 550-600 AB. He's fanned 17 times in 22 games this year, a notably higher clip than the 54 K in 122 games last year.

Well, Cano's always been an empty batting AVG guy... you know he's only going to draw 20 walks a year, and while he'll hit in the .320 range, he's only going to get you about 15 HR. Also, his BABIP has been high hs whole career, especially when considering that he doesn't hit that many line drives (not sure about this, but I think I remember hearing this somewhere). So that's how he's overrated....

I think you overrated him a bunch.
The guy has never had 20 HR's in a season, at any level.
20 is probably his max.

30 HR's?

Thats your fault for overvaluing him then.

He's not going to hit 30. Thats just silly.

A 23 year old hits 15 HR and 41 2B in just 450 AB. It's too much to think he could hit 30 (at least 25) given

a) A full season of 550-600 AB
b) maturation process - how many guys have their best season at 23?
c) doubles turning into HR (that can happen)

He hit 11 HR in his last 210 AB last year.
