Associated Press
PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates were working Monday to complete a trade that would send catcher Jason Kendall to the Padres for third baseman Jeff Cirillo and catcher Ramon Hernandez, The Associated Press has learned.

The teams were close to making a deal last summer, shortly after the Pirates dealt outfielder Brian Giles to the Padres. Then, the two sides couldn't agree on how much of the remaining $42 million of Kendall's contract Pittsburgh would pick up.

Hope this works out better than the last "Kendall to the Pads" deal did.... ;-)

If the Padres get Payton its likely they'll send Nady back to AAA. I think I'd rather have Nady playing over him.

The San Diego Union-Tribune seems to think that the Kendall deal could result in the same stalemate that has killed the deal previously.

I'd be curious to see if the Payton deal would be in addition to Kendall, or in place of...

The Padres have confirmed that the Jason Kendall trade is off for now.
It came down to money, of course. The Padres still wanted the Pirates to assume a portion of the $42 million remaining on Kendall's deal.

Looks like the deal died the same miserable death the other one did.... :-/

Pittsburgh will give in sooner or later. :-)

And I really can't figure why Kevin doesn't just give Nady a shot.. Was last year it? That was your chance X. You blew it. :-o

Apparently if they can find a taker for Terrence Long then Nady will stay in the Bigs.

I do not understand this deal whatsoever???? After they traded for Ramon all you heard was postive things about him, now they want to deal him for another catcher that won't help us one bit. Jesus be happy with who you have, someone will take Cirillo. And if they dont, no big deal, you dont have to pay one penny for him.
