Hughes gets another start

Postby CRedsLarkin11 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 9:19 pm

According to MLB.com, one day after making his major league debut Thursday against the Blue Jays, Yankees SP Phil Hughes was told Friday that he would make his second career start Tuesday against the Rangers.
(Updated 04/27/2007).
FANTASY ANALYSIS
Hughes allowed four runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings Thursday. He struck out five and walked one. Hughes remains a great young talent and should have a bright future in the majors. He is worth starting in most AL-only formats at this time, and should get a look as a low-end option in most mixed leagues.

Out of the 4 leagues I'm currently in, no one picked up Philip Hughes off waivers. Came to a surprise to me. I guess one bad start against the Jays could really turn down someone's hopes. Oh well, I guess it's time for me to snag him off of FA.

I'm glad we get to see another start. But Mussina is supposed to rejoin the rotation this coming week. So that could mean he might be going down after this start.

Pettite
Moose
Pavano DL
Wang

I'm guessing those 4 are a lock for the starting rotation (once all healthy). So the 5th spot is either Hughes/Igawa :-P /Karstens :-P ?

Well Karstens is out now because of the line drive he took to his knee in the 1st inning against Boston yesterday. Rotoworld.com says that he suffered a fractured fibula and that he will be out for a couple months. So I guess the 5th spot is now between Igawa and Hughes. But if Igawa pitches like he did yesterday in his next start, the decision is too easy.

Just a little update on Clemens now that you mention it, courtesy of rotoworld:
Roger Clemens' agent reiterated Friday that Clemens will make his decision regarding where to play this season "by the end of May."
"Roger has been working out and feels good," agent Randy Hendricks wrote in an e-mail. "But he has yet to ramp up his workouts, the kind where he tortures himself. I have been in communication with all three teams and all three are, of course, interested."
