Last night was the first time i got to see the great Phil Hughes pitch. I have to say i really was not very impressed with his stuff. Good hook but everything else seemed mediocre. Maybe it was just nerves who knows.

he settled down and pithced well after the the 1st....He had fear in his eyeballs and was harboring the thought of failure in his soul. I could tell by looking at him...

He settled down and pitched ok its just that for all the fanfare i didnt think he lived up to the hype. Im speaking about his stuff not his results. Besides the plus curveball i didnt think anything else about him was special. What did he top out at 93 mph? That doesnt sound like the next Roger Clemens.

first let me start off by saying im a huge yankee fan...ok so now i will say i completely disagree with nucci...his stuff i thought was pretty impressive. in the first inning thomas had a very good hit off an almost unhittable pitch low and away(but hes a hall of famer) and he did settle down after that and pitched nicely until the 5th inning and im sorry but try and think about the fact that HES 20 YEARS OLD...kids not even doen with puberty yet
props to idahofan

He did pitch very well last night. He is probably just a victim of the hype surrounding him. I find his "stuff" to be slightly above average. His curveball is nasty but besides that everything else seems to be slightly above average. He does appear to have good composure for a 20 year old.
The NY Media here makes it sound like hes going to come out pumping 99 with a curve that falls off the table. Its not every day you hear someone called "mini rocket".
So Im sure with his complete package he will turn out to be a good pitcher but Im still not terribly impressed with his stuff.
