Lincecum

Postby bAsKeTcAsE86 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 1:25 pm

My friend, who is a Giants fan, mentioned to me a few days ago that the Giants were thinking of calling up Lincecum to take over the closer's role. With Benitez nailing down his last 3 saves, I wonder if this is still a possibility. Have any of you heard anything about this situation?

I've heard Cashman interviewed here in the bay area and he was very clear, on a couple of occasions, that they would use him if he were ready and the best option. He went on to say that there are many pitchers who would get the chance was basically, to my understanding, diplomatically shutting the idea down.

Especially with Benitez perfect in save opportunities, I wouldn't hold my breath for a call up of Lincecum as a closer.

More likely he takes over for Russ Ortiz if the vet can't cut it.

Lincecum has amazing stuff. I think he would fit in fine as a closer because of his dominance on the mound. He'd be like a Papelbon to me in a closer's role. I still see more value for him to be a SP in the Giants rotation. Obviously, Russ Ortiz is the weaker links of the rotation so if Lincecum were to come up, I'm sure he'd get the boot.
