It's early in the game, but Russ Ortiz is beginning to show his true colors for the San Francisco Giants. Through 2 innings against the Dodgers, Ortiz has allowed 3 ER on 5 hits with no strikeouts.

I hope Sabean has Timmy on speed dial. ;-D

3 runs is nothing to panic over, especially when it comes to how you handle your top prospect.

I realize the Giants aren't going to rush Lincecum, but the worse Ortiz pitches, the closer we are to seeing him in the bigs. This thread was created with more hopeful enthusiasm than anything else.

Then again...just last week, wasn't everyone saying there was no way the Yanks would call up their top prospect this early in the season? ;-7

How long of a leash is Russ Ortiz on? Any Giants fans know how Brian Sabean typically rolls with these kinds of situations?

He's pitched well so far this month, with the exception of tonight's game. (Even tonight, it's not that bad 3ER in 5 innings so far).

I think he's got a fairly long leash.
