Otsuka/Gagne-Why Mess with Success?

I dont get this whole closer situation on Texas. Otsuka bailed out the Rangers when Cordero`s control went AWOL last year.
Those lucky enough to pick him up got 32 saves , 1.47 Ks per inning, 2.128 ERA and 1.081 WHP.
Yes, Gagne had the best closing run in MLB history, but that`s long ago and far away.
I know Otsuka had a D Willis-like alternating good/mediocre year thing going on, but that seems like a pretty shaky reason to take a chance on Gagne for.
Is this gonna be a year long closer see-saw in Texas?

I agree with you 100%. Signing Gagne was really not a good decision if you already have an efficient closer like Otsuka. I guess he still has that "superstar" quality to attract thhe fans.

If Gagne somehow got on track and nailed 10 saves in 12 chances, I still dont think the Rangers could afford to trade Otsuka. What is Gagne signed for? The Rangers could have used the bread to get help in another area.
