It would not surprise me in the least if this was staged but I have to agree with Mak, I don't care. The whole episode was dumb anyway and far less dramatic than ESPN seemed to think it was.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
the sock is currently in the hall of fame. wouldnt it be pretty easy for it to be tested for blood or paint?
would Schilling send the sock to the hall of fame if it was paint knowing it could easily be tested?
i have to side with Schilling on this one.

Thorne said Mirabelli said it around the time Mirabelli was in San Diego, so Mirabelli would have no ties to the Sox and wouldn't think that he would be with the Sox ever again. So it is possible he said it.
The way Thorne said it, you can tell it wasn't something he made up and he wasn't lying. It is possible Mirabelli said it jokingly though
that's what i'm thinking and this Thorne guy ran with it
Yea, I'm sure Mirabelli told him years ago and Thorne just forgot to mention it till now. Makes perfect timeline sense.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
I've actually said that his sock was fake since that game. Not like I really know anything, but Schilling is such a prick and an arrogant jerk that I like to believe he was pulling a PR stunt
"Oh, that Lankford and McGee, the trio of 'em. They're a one-man wrecking crew."

Regardless of whether it was blood or not, it was still a PR stunt by Schill. I mean come on, you can't put a piece of gauze between your ankle and your sock?
