This is a little late getting posted----but I dont understand why Hoffman got a save on Tuesday.
Padres were up by 5 ---Hoffman pitched 1 out with the bases loaded. Even if he lets up the Grand Slam, the Pods are still ahead.
Could someone please explain this to me?

thanks...........

you get a save if

you come in with the tying run on deck
you pitch 3 innings
you come on with three outs and a 3 run lead or less.

this is the correct answer. bases juiced, down by 5 means the tying run is on deck.

I had Webb and Peavy both pitching.

Neither got wins b/c of this. If the game was in San Diego, not only would I have gotten the win from Webb, but I also would have gotten the save from Valverde.

3 easy rules of save

1. the pitcher has to be the last pitcher of the game
2. the pitcher can't be the winning pitcher
3. the pitcher has to
a. pitch one inning with a lead of 3 or less
b. comes in with the lead and pitches the last 3+ innings and pitch effectively
c. comes in the game with the potential tying run on base, at bat or on deck.

in this case the tying run was on deck, so Hoffman gets the save

If they were playing in San Diego. Drew's ball would have been caught
