Will Lincecum be called up this year?

Postby UGADawgGuy » Wed Apr 25, 2007 11:07 am

Anybody have some insight into this situation?

As of now, I could drop Lincecum and pick up Hughes. But, really, is either guy worth the flyer, in a non-keeper league?

Your the thousandth person to ask that question, but here are some quotes from the team's GM in yesterday's paper:

"If he continues on this path, he's certainly not a minor league pitcher," Sabean said. "At some point, you've got to admit that and make room. He's on his way to forcing the issue."

..."He's very, very unique," Sabean said. "And this day in age, when the kid forces the issue, it becomes incumbent on the organization to (promote him). We've seen more pitchers coming out of college with seemingly instant success. If he can help the big league club, and it's good for him, you have to look at it."

...Sabean is in the final year of his contract and under a mandate to win, which can shift priorities. But Sabean said that if he brings up Lincecum to bolster a sagging late-inning relief crew, it's because the kid belongs in the big leagues.

Obviously, Hughes is going to beat him to the big show this year...however, I'm willing to bet that Lincecum makes more starts than Hughes this year.

Linecum is proving he is ready, and it is only a matter of time before he gets the call if he keeps this up. Hughes situation is a lot more muddled, so Linecum is probably the better bet for this year.

I have him stashed in a few leagues, one being a keeper. I think he is worth the bench spot...

He'll be called up eventually if he keeps it up. Hughes only got called up because the Yankees are actually trying to contend and they are simply desperate for pitching. Though the Giants have been on a lil hot streak lately I don't think Sabean and everyone else realistically expects them to contend this year. But seeing as how Cain got called up last year, Lincecum will very likely too.

Post your roster so we can advise you on someone else to drop.

I recommend both (which is what I did in one of my keeper leagues, haha)

Hughes > Lincecum if you can only get one imho.

Sorry. I was asked to post my roster...I wouldn't have done so here, otherwise.

True...he was asked.

I'd try to make room for both.

Dawg - you are very deep at 2B...are you a big Theriot fan? I'd lean toward cutting him. He'll be on your bench most days anyway.
