Brett Myers to close for the Phils?

Postby LouSluggers » Tue Apr 24, 2007 10:37 am

What is Manuel thinking? Is he managing himself out of a job?

From Yahoo:

"Manuel said Gordon is still the bullpen ace, at least for now. "He's our closer," Manuel said. "We're committed to him until Brett becomes better or whatever." But Manuel said Myers, the Phillies' former No. 1 starter, will get some save opportunities and will work his way up to pitching in consecutive games and more than an inning an appearance. Of course, there's always the possibility the organization will come to its senses and reinsert Myers back into the rotation."

Does anyone see this working out well?

really no way to tell. Myers has never closed before. So just gotta wait and see what happens.

If you have the need -and the room, pick him up and see what happens. He may be good, he may be bad, he may remain in the bullpen, he may go back to being a starter. No way to know considering the state of the Phils right now.

I just hope this transition is relatively quick. I'm tired of him taking up a roster spot.

If he's going to be the closer, great. His value shoots way back up again, both as a commodity for my team and as a trade chip. Same thing if he becomes a starter again. As his is now, it's all just a tease.
When you are a man, sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room...is for fun.

I knew his stint as a MR wouldn't last long. Manuel is either lightening up on the pot a little bit or management is pressuring him to utilize their multi million dollar ace pitcher more effectively.

Picked him up in my HLDs league where I think he can have some value as a HLDs guy out of a SP slot.

the phillies do know you play 162 games in a full season right?

maybe someone should write them a note or something, cause i think they dont know anymore...

either that or they jus love to panic. so glad im not a phillies fan, id kill myself if Angels stuck Vlad at closer or something cause he went 0-4 in 2 straight games.

"Until Brett gets better or whatever."

Sounds like you really know what you're talking about big Charlie :-b

I am a Phils fan and believe me, the Myers move is about tenth in line of reasons for Phillies fans to kill themselves.

He'll be closing the second Gordon either comes up lame or blows multiple saves in a row. If Manuel is still here that is.

I think Tom Gordon is basically set in that closer role. Its a serious shame Myers had to be sent to the bullpen. I think Myers should head back up into the rotation and Manuel should send someone like Adam Eaton to the pen.
