David Halberstam Dies

David Halberstam, author of October 1964 and Summer '49, was killed in a car crash today.

A late reply, but I just found this thread...

October 1964 and Summer of '49 were excellent, excellent baseball books. They have some historical inaccuracies but are eminently readable.

I also read Halberstam's The Fifties and The Reckoning (about the U.S. auto industry), plus the Best and the Brightest. Halbsterstam was an outstanding author. His premature death is a great loss.

I'm an enormous David Halberstam fan. October '64 is highly recommended (as are his other books, baseball- and non-baseball-related). It's tragic what happened.
