I never got excited about this guy. There is something about a sub-.200 career BA against RHPs that makes me think that Laird should not be mentioned as a top 10 C. If you have a format where you can plug him in against lefties, who he shreds, by all means use him, but I would never have wanted to go into this season with him as my day-to-day C.

I bought him as a 2nd catcher to go with Mauer, hoping he'd hit somewhere in the .270-15-60 range with upside. Maybe he'll get there this season, maybe not, we'll see. He just had a bunt single for a 2-4 on the day so maybe things will start turning around for him.

I dropped him in favor of Buck (KC) last week.

He's never had consistent playing time in the big leagues before, so he may just be struggling to adjust. He showed all good things in 2005 in AAA and was solid last year for the most part in limited time. I think he'll turn it around.

I never believed in him before the season started so no, I don't think he'll turn it around. He shouldn't have been considered a sleeper catcher going into the season imo.

besides, anyone who picked him still picked him at the end of the draft, sleeper or no. its not like hes someone you cant just cut and then pick up again if he gets it going
