He needs to do it for a full season. Interestingly, there is no back up plan long term. I don't believe there is any really talented SS prospect anywhere in the Brewer's system.

should have picked him when i had the righteous chance darn it i believe this will be a minimum 25-home run season for this young man because of his recent home run pace. so far he has 6 homers, a .306 average, a startling .920 OPS!!, 19 RBI, and an additional 33 hits.... he is destined for greatness in the mere future if not already, watch out for the brewers people!!!

Are you insane?
Reyes is just as good defensively and a much better hitter IMO. Power is only one part of hitting and some will argue Hardy doesn't even beat Reyes in that category either. When you consider Reyes also steals a ton of bases, I'm not sure where you're coming from with that comment.
I don't think there is one GM in the MLB that would take Hardy over Reyes, and that is real baseball.
Ok I gave it 2 years like I suggested and here are their values in 2007/2008 according to fangraphs.
Reyes - $46.7M Hardy -$43.5M
Reyes wins but it was nowhere near a case where I was 'insane'. Hardy is one of the 3 or 4 best SS's in baseball right now.
