Last I checked, I think Buck catches 3/5 of the staff. He's my C, but I'd feel better about it if he got 4/5 of the staff...

Strangely, he never seems to hit with guys on. 13 hr's and 25 rbi? That's unreal...

poopdungbeatle wrote:hey, this might sound lame....but i think it might be a good thing to platoon. Catchers experience a lot of wear and tear if they play everyday. If Buck catches everyday, you might see a big decline in his numbers....just my opinion, please dont jump all over me.

Not lame at all. It's a very valid point and I'm sure it's at least part, if not all, of Bell's thinking. I just happen to disagree with Bell (and that has a lot to do with my fantasy interests).

The Royals should continue with what works. The platoon might keep Buck fresh for the second half. I agree with the poopdungbeatle. One thing I believe should happen is that Buck should be hitting higher in the order. He is hitting well and would have more RISP when he pounds them homers. If he struggles, then simply move him back down.

Simple decisions like not making Buck the everyday catcher and batting him low in the order despite his great #'s are why the Royals have been such a good team over the years. Who cares if Larue has better intangibles or defense..its the Royals, are intangibles really important?

I'm torn between advocating more playing time and advocating the status quo for this guy. At least KC has come out and said who he'll catch for, so its a predictable platoon. I do think they should be batting him higher than 6th or 7th. If he keeps hitting, he'll eventually get more playing time. Simple as that.
