Henry Owens new Marlins closer.

Postby DudeLaw » Thu Apr 19, 2007 4:43 pm

From rotoworld.com...

Manager Fredi Gonzalez has apparently decided to go with Henry Owens as the Marlins' closer.

"It is the role most relievers want, and I'm no different," Owens said. "You have to believe that you can handle the challenge of coming in and shutting down a game." Owens, who closed in the minors, hasn't allowed a run in eight innings this season and has held opponents to a .111 batting average.

Wow, I dropped him in 2 leagues yesterday because I thought this would remain a committee for a while. At least I held onto him in my dynasty league. ;-D

Ahh, love it. Owens named closer. Comes in a non-save situation and gives up a couple runs! He is definitely a closer, he has that mentality :-D

It was against the heart of the Mets lineup and the Marlins were down big. I don't understand why he was in there in the first place.

Like twisted said, it was garbage time and against the heart of the Mets lineup. Hard to get amped up and focused like a closer needs to in that situation. I wouldn't come to any conclusions based on that. Let's see how he does in actual save situations, then talk.

As for why he was brought in, it had been a while since he pitched. Not exactly a lot of save opportunities for him. My guess is he was out there just getting some work.
