Errr..... I have a Mac and I spend WAAAAY too much time playing games. You can get most of the major software titles out there for your Mac, plus you can pretty much play every kind of freebie Internet game on your Mac.

Believe me. I've wasted many, many, many hours online with stuff like blockhead, shuffleboard, gemdrop, proximity, text twist, dice wars, and on and on and on and on.....

Well, there may be some truth to that. It's possible that it got rained on - it sits right under her window and I know she's had the window open during the pleasant spring days lately, but it's also been raining off and on, too.

I know the dumb thing is getting power because there's a light that comes on in the back when I plug it in. But the power button does absolutely nothing. It's weird.

I actually sent you a pretty lengthy PM with some suggestions; if you think it might have gotten wet, then that actually re-affirms the possibility that the system board needs replacement as that is what would short out in the event of minor water damage.

You'll likely have to go customer support on this one; is it a branded PC?

I've been playing with the Dell website, and I customized an Inspiron 1501:

Windows Vista Home
15.4" Widescreen
AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 (2.0GHz/1MB)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
MS Word, Exel, and Outlook
2 Years McAfee Security
5 Years WebRoot Spy Sweeper
3 Yr Ltd Warranty, On-site Service, Tech Support

All this came to a bit over $1,150

Is this too much for what I need? The warranty cost around $150...and the virus stuff was around $50-$60, but I figure that stuff is pretty important.

thats definitely too much money to spend on a laptop for what you want to do. if i were you i would only be willing to spend 7, maybe 800 max.

I'd say dump the DVD burner, and knock off a few years on the virus/spysweeper stuff. Honestly, McAfee alone will be sufficient in keeping out viruses and spyware, provided you don't get too download happy.

Also, you don't really need on-site service.

Ain't nothing wrong with a mac ;D I've got a power book laptop and a mini. I want to upgrade and get one of the new MacBook's but I'll probably wait a little bit until they come out with a new set. But there's also Windoze emulators that are available for your mac and keeps up with the same protection that don't need to be run all the time. Similar to how Macs can go back and do Classic OS's.
