We are talking about the 2005 AL Cy Young winner here. I targeted him on draft day and managed to snag him on the cheap in both my AL only roto leagues. Colon has shown durability before, throwing 200+ innings in 7 of his 10 pro seasons, and has looked good coming back ahead of schedule and throwing mid 90s in rehab starts. Might be too early to pull the trigger in mixed leagues, but AL only...what are you waiting for?
I picked him in the 25th round in one league and stashed him on the dl, and I will start him for his saturday start. I may pick him up in my other league, but I just want to know what the gurus of this forum think of Colon in 2007.

He's not THAT good, and won't be a perennial Cy Young contender. Everything went his way in 2005 (and I was fortunate to own him that year) but he walks too many guys and gives up quite a few HR. His WHIP varies wildly from 1.2-1.4 typically.
He's still a good fantasy pitcher though. But his peripherals are no Cy Young-calibre.

He's been out for a long time so he will definitely be rusty. Also, he had a shoulder injury which almost always results in loss of velocity. Good thing is, he was hitting 100 prior to the injury so 5-6 MPH loss still means he can bring it up there.
I think he can still be serviceable but I wouldn't count on him to contribute...especially right away.

It is true that he will probably be rusty and I would like him to have a better walk rate, but any pitcher that is still throwing mid 90's in the 7th inning is worth taking a shot on as your 7th pitcher especially with colon's resume. Vlad will be back by friday night, and if colon makes 6 innings saturday against seattle (who is 2nd last in the american league in scoring runs and 27th in mixed) I believe he has a great chance to get a win. Go Bartolo!
I would say Big Bart is worth an add. I work for the Angels Single A team and I got the opportunity to see him pitch two games down there over the past couple weeks. He was throwing great, his rotator cuff didn't seem to be bothering him at all. After the game he even said he felt good (though pitchers do lie
I doubt he will ever be Cy Young Bartolo again but he should be owned, and if he can stay healthy should put up servicable numbers.
