what are your opinions on gomes?

just wanted to hear what you guys thought of him, and what can be expected playing wise this year. will it take a significant injury to get him anywhere near fulltime atbats? i mean, he can still hit, yes?

I think it will take alot of Devil Ray injuries for Gomes to see much playing time at all. He is 5th on the depth chart for outfielders, so Dukes would see most of the time if Rocco went down. Heck if 2 outfielders went down, I think we would see Dukes and Upton in the outfield with Wigginton moving over to 2nd base before we saw Gomes full time in RF.

Can he still hit? Well, he never has been able to really hit the baseball. He can smash a baseball if he gets a hold of it, but those times are too far in between. He had a great fluky April last year, and some people seem to think that would be his norm, but go look at his minor league numbers. He has never impressed except for the first few months of 05 and April of 06.
