When idiots write articles...

Postby Pedantic » Mon Jan 05, 2004 3:32 am

I was reading this "Cell Phone Article" on bCentral by Chris Elliott. One thing I noticed during the article is that he is an idiot. There is no way around this.

Chris Elliott wrote:Mobile phone transmission while on-board an aircraft may interfere with equipment including communications, navigation and flight control systems, says the United Kingdom's Civil Aviation Authority.

If he believes that, I have a lovely piece of oceanfront property in Arizona I'd love to sell him. I guess he takes everything he hears/sees/reads at face value.

I guess I'm having trouble understanding what exactly makes the writer an idiot. Going by that quote, the claim (more of a warning than a claim, really) belongs to the UK's CAA, not the writer.

He "cites" this dubious statement in his article as evidence as to why the use of cell phones is "dangerous."

I'm curious to read this article if you could provide a link.

Kind of going along with the above quote, it's my understanding that cell phones are banned for a few reasons: a) precautionary reasons b) prime opportunity to make money c) FCC.

I was on a plane the other day and was told for take off/landing, I couldn't have the shade down. "Why, I just want to sleep; it's very bright."

"Regulations."

I couldn't believe it. What possible reason could there be to prevent people from closing the shades during take off or landing? Incomprehensible.
I'm back. Sorta.

Do not boo Johnny.

Sorry if my tone seemed too harsh. I was tired when I posted this and...well, things happen when I'm tired, let's put it that way. :-b But I still think the guy's an idiot. ;-)
