How did Cho purchase handguns if he spent time in a Mental Health Facility? I'm sorry, but this is what I mean by gun control. If you want to keep them in the hands of law-abiding citizens, that's fine with me so long as people with mental health problems don't get them. People say we should give IQ tests, and background checks and criminal checks. If you go to a nuthouse, you don't get a gun.
That should be a rule, no exceptions, I'm sorry... even if you go to a mental hospital because you're depressed, your wife died, you lost your job... no gun. I don't care if you can still get guns from "other places," what's the point of a mental health background check if this guy, who had mental health problems, got a gun? We shouldn't be just handing guns out.
I also think you shouldn't be allowed to be sold a firearm if you have been convicted of anything so insignificant as a low misdemeanor. Yes, DUI... no gun. If you don't have the common sense to not drive drunk, and then get caught for it, then you sure as hell don't have the sense to own a gun. Punch your girlfriend? No gun. Child porn on your computer? No gun. You peed in public? Sorry, no gun.
You obey the law and you're not mentally unstable, then fine... get a gun. I know there are plenty of potential criminals out there who are model citizens, but if we can't keep a mentally disturbed individual who spent time in the looney bin from getting a gun, then something's wrong.
If you're a battery, you're either working or you're dead....
