Isn't that when the pitcher keeps touching himself to make the hitter assume that a spitter is coming. Really he isn't doing anything to the ball though.

Hmm... not sure what you'd call what you described. Good guess, but a dry spitter refers to something different. Or maybe I should say "referred" - the term isn't used much any more...

Trying to stay away from the obvious sexual references :-o and being an ex-bartender, I'd say that it sounds like a drink to me. :*)

LOL, found this online. :-B

SPITBALL

Cocktails

2 oz. (6 cl) Gin
0.5 oz. (15 ml) Dry Vermouth
2 tsp. (7.5 ml) Maraschino Liqueur

Fill a shaker half full with ice cubes. Pour all ingredients into shaker and shake well. Strain drink into a Cocktail glass, garnish with a Maraschino Cherry, and serve.

So is the dry spitter the same thing with more vermouth?

Sorry, I'm afraid you don't win... of course if you mixed me one of those, I might change my mind... :-D

Close enough for me. :-) Actually, it's simply a knuckle ball of any kind, since the movement on a knuckler is similar to a spitball (and often equally unpredictable).
