for the love god someone needs to black ball stokes.
Remember guys, the competition at Durham is much lower then in the bigs. McClung and Orvella have had some good numbers, but they are still struggling with control a bit and would not be very much better then what we have right now in Tampa. Orvella is throwing his 95 mph fastball waist high past the AAAers, but Arod, Ortiz, and gang will not miss that pitch very many times. Until they can pitch down in the zone on a consistent basis, they are not any better then what we have. Our best looking arms to replace Ryu, Stokes, and gang right now are our minor league starters, but I don't think the right move would be to put them in Tampa as relievers at this point. We need their arm strength to be building up not staying the same or lowering.
The goal for this year is not a championship, but to compete and to continue to improve the pitching in the minors for a run in 2009. Yes it definitely sucks to see 6 losses by our pen already, but we were not in a position last winter to make a run at any decent arms to supplement the guys we have. We would have to had overpay hugely and that would not be good for our future. I think we will be able to sign some guys this winter as Upton, Baldelli, Young, and guys are showing that there is some excitement in Tampa, so some guys will want to come here to play to help us beat the mighty Sox and Yanks without us having to overpay like Kansas City did this past winter.
Patience young grasshoppers.
