I just love watching pretty boy, overhyped Cubs pitchers who had everyone praising them before they hit the age of 25 fail miserably. I can't help it. Its the Cardinals fan in me. :-b[/quote]

Say what you will about Prior, but most, if not all of his injury issues these last few years has to be blamed on Baker. He abused him. Young arms cannot withstand the kind of high pitch counts he subjected him to. As far as I am concerned, he ruined both Prior and Wood.

why? it's so painful!

How can you enjoy watching a player of his caliber suffer like he does? I can barely stand it.

He proved it in 2003 that it was no overhype.
And he didnt fail. You just cant do anything about injuries. Noone can see that comin.
And if you enjoy seeing a someone getting injured and losing everything he likes in life, just because he is playing for a team that you hate, than you are a retarded.

Im a Cubs fan but you know what?
My two favorite players are Jim Edmonds and David Eckstein.
And they are playing on a team that I hate the most (Yankees doesnt count). Still I rute for them cause they represent what I like in baseball. They are players in their heart.
By the way Jeter is in my top 5 too.

I am not a fan of either the Cards or the Cubs.

What has happened to Prior is heart breaking in my book. He was the total package. He had electric stuff and knew how to pitch. He could work the count to get a strikeout. He could get a doubleplay ball when a man was on first. He was not just a thrower like WOOD. Maybe I bought into the 'hype', but to me, he looked to be destined for the HOF early in his career.

I am not sure that "overhyped" is the right word. I think that people just RECOGNIZED his insane talent.

Per thebaseball cube, Prior won the following awards:

1999 - Freshman 2nd team All-America UT
2000 - Summer League First-Team All-American SP
2001 - Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, 1st team College All-American P, Pac-10 Conference All-Star P, Baseball America College Player of the Year, Golden Spikes Award
2002 - NL Rookie of the Year (Voting Rank: #7)
2003 - Chicago Cubs Player of the Year, Baseball America First-Team Major League All-Star SP, NL MVP (Voting Rank: #9), NL Cy Young Award (Voting Rank: #3), Played in MLB All-Star Game

That doesn't seem to be hype. BTW.. How much of a bitter A$$ are you sportsaddict if you really root for players to get hurt? Your team just won the series. People say that Cardinal fans are some of the most intelligent fans in all of baseball. Maybe not :-t

Sad to see a guy with so much talent be hurt all the time, but even so I love reading 'The Onion' and still remember this article they wrote about Prior, which is hilarious:

"We firmly believe that Mark's best injuries are still ahead of him."

Agreed. That is very funny.

Your the type of person that dances on people's graves aren't you? Thanks for the useless post and your rationale for posting this dumb comment was even worse.

It is too bad that us true baseball fans will probably never get to see how truly great Prior could have been.
