Julio out as closer

Postby rocky123 » Thu Apr 12, 2007 9:47 am

I've gotta think it's Owen's job now.

From Rotoworld:

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Jorge Julio has been told he is no longer the Marlins' closer.
Julio, who blew two saves in the past week, was told by manager Fredi Gonzalez on Wednesday that he will now work in the sixth or seventh innings. "It is best for me right now," said Julio. "I need to work on my game, especially my command. I like this team, and I want to help it, not hurt it." Gonzalez says he hasn't decided on a replacement, but Henry Owens, Lee Gardner and Matt Lindstrom are candidates.
Finally The Rock has come back....to New York City!!

Any thoughts on how long this lasts...will Tank eventually step in front of these other guys once he gets a few games in...I say Owens looks good right now but he has no experience above double A. Papelbon surprised last year though so I guess it could work.

Will they give Julio a shot again once he gets things worked out?

Tough to say I guess but any guesses???

I think they'll try and work with Julio for a while and eventually give him another shot at closing if Owens starts to struggle.

I think Julio is out of the role for good. One of Owens, Lindstrom or Tankersley will step up and take it. Julio is just far too inconsistent. He is much better suited to a setup role because if they use their best RP to setup Julio than they're in a pickle on the days he pulls a Mr. Hyde.

My best guess is that Tank gets a week of work or so and they go with him as the closer...Owens has looked good but Tank actually closed 3 games last year and has alot more experience. Once he gets the job he wont lose it...even if Julio looks good in middle relief. At least I hope since I have Tank in my DL and just dropped Julio. Anyone agree?

Also, anyone know how long you can keep someone on the DL (injured status) in cbs sportsline leagues once they actually come off the DL. We have no rules except once you take them off the DL you cant put them back on unless they get another injury...so if cbs lets you have them on for weeks after they actually come off the DL I may keep Tank there for a while. Anyone have experience with this???

Didnt notice that but thinking back (I watch alot of Marlins games here in Miami) and checking it looks like he did blow 4 so that isnt a good sign for him getting the job I guess...although he still does have more experience than Owens....even if it is at blowing some games. Hmmm...

I would put my money on Owens.
He pitched well so far and his minor league stats are great.

it bothers me that Owens is a similar word to Owings.....and I think this is jading some....Tankersley will be the closer becasue I own him.
