What can I improve on?

Postby thechanman12 » Wed Apr 11, 2007 9:02 pm

My team is currently in 2nd to last place, and I'm doing pretty poorly in all of the batting categories, and OK in the pitching categories

C Chris Iannetta
1B Prince Fielder
2B Howie Kendrick
3B Garrett Atkins
SS Hanley Ramírez
OF Alfonso Soriano
OF Manny Ramírez
OF Chris B. Young
Util Stephen Drew
Util Sammy Sosa
Util Adrián Béltre
BN Brandon Phillips
BN Edwin Encarnación
DL Rafael Furcal

SP Ben Sheets
SP Carlos Zambrano
RP Joe Nathan
RP Joe Borowski
P Boof Bonser
P David Weathers
P Brett Myers
BN Javier Vázquez
BN Dave Bush
BN Ian Snell
BN Anibal Sánchez

12 team Roto

R, H, HR, RBI, SB, K, AVG, OPS, W, SV, BB, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB, K/9

What should I try to improve on, and what type of players should I try to target (power, speed, ERA, wins, etc) and who can I trade away to improve the categories that need improving on?

Thanks in advance

Hitting holes:
Young, Drew, Sosa, Beltre.

Reasoning: Young and Drew have great potential, don't get me wrong, but are unproven. I would keep them for sure, but I wouldn't be starting them over Encarnacion or Phillips even. Sosa is an interesting chance this year, but so far is worthless and isn't worth the start until he heats up. Beltre the same.

Pitching holes:
Not many. I like the starters, though Sheets' health is a concern and Vazquez's ERA and WHIP are poor. Bush, Bonser and Snell are all nasty and will prove very valuable. Myers is also a solid starter. Sanchez is more iffy than the rest of your squad, but you have plenty of depth.

Overall: Consider shopping a starter and perhaps Drew or Young for a solid hitter. Otherwise your team looks quite solid. Don't worry about your standing this early, give your players time.

Thanks, but what are some players that would benefit me most that I should go after? Also, which pitchers would you be willing to shop around for? I'm thinking a 2 for 1 trade involving a pitcher and one of my bench hitters

Well, I don't know how your league looks but consider some of these guys for hitters:
Jacobs, Kotchman, Hawpe, Duncan.

Out of your pitchers I would rank them as such:
Zambrano (over Sheets solely because of Sheets' health issues)
Sheets
Myers
Snell
Bush/Bonser
Vazquez
Sanchez

I would try and shop the last 2 for a hitter. Yea, a 2 for 1 deal is always nice because it frees a roster spot for you.

Should I try to go for a lesser known hitter but give up my lesser pitchers, or do you guys think I could give up a good pitcher (Ben Sheets, etc) for a stud hitter? I definitely don't want to give away Zambrano because I just traded for him and Furcal, and I lost Bill Hall, Barry Bonds, and Nomar.

Well you did well with your trade.

It's up to you as to what trade you wish to persue. I would personally shop the 2 lesser pitchers for a solid hitter then send Sheets away.

Yeah, that would be the best-case scenario, but I'm not sure if my 2 weakest pitchers will be appealing to anyone else in the league
