Dec. 31 - The Mariners have been trying to unload Cirillo and his albatross of a contract for some time, and they nearly had him packaged to the Mets for Roger Cedeno two weeks ago. Now the Rocky Mountain News reports Seattle is in discussions with Padres to send Cirillo down the Pacific Coast in exchange for pitcher Kevin Jarvis and catcher Wiki Gonzalez.
God help us that this deal falls through. I'd much rather have a #6 pitcher and a backup catcher than an old fart who can BARELY play 3b.

Neither side would really benifit.....Jarvis has a "albatross" of a contract too....If I was KT...I think I would keep Jarvis and Wiki....

If Cirrilo is a Padre come June 1st I will be VERY suprised.
To me it makes some sense, it opens up 2 spots on the 40-man roster, which can be used for other player[Maddux and Vlad?? Ok ok a boy can dream].
Sometimes you trade junk for junk and get a spec in return, kinda like how the Yankees traded White to the Padres for Trammell and the SP spec, and let Trammell go.
So yeah, it kinda opens up 3 spots on the roster. Who knows what will happen.

here in seattle we got to golf for however much his batting average was, maybe something like that could happen in san diego, maybe fruits and nuts for whatever cirillos average is? i dont know, an idea
