if the season started today would Eric Bynres be a 1st round pick?
i know it's only been one week but he's hitting ..355 with 2 HR, 7 RBI and 4 SB with 5 runs scored. that puts him on pace for 115/.355/46/162/92. now i realize those numbers might come down a bit, but he is in a contract year a la Soriano from 2006, so i think a line of 100/.300/40/120/35 is pretty realistic. he's always been a 20/20 candidate (25/25 last year) and i dont see any reason why he cant hit .030 points higher than his career avg and up those numbers a bit based on his hot start
seriously though...i'm liking his hot start and hoping for 90/.270/25/85/20
I was sure to target him in all drafts this year and before the first game of the season on this very site I predicted a HUGE season for him in a "Bold 2007 Predictions" thread.
Sorry, haaaaaad to toot my own horn on this guy as he is one of my favorite non-Mets players in MLB. The guy plays the game of baseball with the mentality of a middle LB.
I am a New York Jets, New York Mets, and New York Knicks fan. I know misery like few other sports fans know ...
Strong lineup but talent is too dispersed, and there aren't great hitters in front of him (good, but not great). I see 90/90 as his ceilings in RBI/runs scored.
His speed is for real, so w/ the hot start he'll maybe get past 30 steals this season. Homers...it's a tough call. Ibanez was a guy who always hit mid-20's and then last year bumped out to 35, even in a pitcher's park. Byrnes could make the leap since his park is much nicer for hitters, but personally I don't see him getting past 27.
And his K's are definitely for real, which limits average to 275 or so.
Still, very good value, probably should have gone around when Torii Hunter did.
what's interesting about Byrnes is that he hits both leadoff AND cleanup, depending upon lefty righty matchups.
He's in a contract year. I had him last year and paid $17 for him this year in our Auction. I should have kept him for $7.
He's a late bloomer. He showed alot of potential in Oakland, but couldn't win many starts and had some injury concerns. If he stays healthy, I see him as a 25 HR, 40 SB, 100 RBI guy.

He K'd 88 times last year, 1 in every 6.4 AB's and for his career about 1 ever 6 AB's. That doesn't seem like a lot. His K rate is less than Miguel Cabrera's.
