McCutchen without a doubt. He is the much better prospect by quite a bit, but Pence is a year closer to the bigs. I would still rather have the upside in McCutchen then the age in Pence.
I think it depends on what you prefer. Pence is more major league ready and stands a much better chance of playing this year (depending on Burke, Scott, and Lane, he could be up by the All Star break). Mccutchen is younger and a bit more raw. I would be really surprised to see him in the majors this year.
Also, I think they'll be different types of players. Pence looks to be more of a masher, while Mccutchen seems to have more 5 tool potential.
In a pinch, I would go with Pence. I think he's a bit safer, has a better shot at contributing sooner, and I'm excited to see him at Minute Maid...

without a doubt
Just traded BButler, BWood & JLoney for Mark Teixeira, Ryan Theriot & Renyel Pinto in a DYNASTY LEAGUE. Big gamble I know!

I kind of figured McCutchen would rule this discussion, the guy had a terrific spring, and hell, if Duffy doesn't pan out around the all-star break I wouldn't be surprised if McCutchen skips AAA all together and joins the big club.....
I kind of see alot of Marquis Grissom in his prime in McCutchen, is that a good comparison.
Pence on the other hand, is more of a DH type guy playing in the NL, I can't see him playing Center field, at Minute Maid, isn't he more of a corner OF?
Definitely McCutchen, and not because I'm biased, either. Heck, if the Pirates suck more than usual this year and attendance is dropping, they may promote McCutchen in September to help the attendance, then have him be a permanent player in 2008. He had a REALLY strong end of the season in AA last year and did VERY well in spring. Plus he's only 19-20 years old.
