H. Matsui taken out

Postby kemper5 » Sat Apr 07, 2007 3:16 pm

Hideki Matsui-OF-Yankees Apr. 7 - 2:44 pm et

Hideki Matsui left Saturday's game in the fourth inning with a strained left hamstring.

Miguel Cairo pinch-hit for him and took over in left field. If Matsui heads to the DL with the injury, the Yankees will call up either Kevin Thompson or Kevin Reese. Melky Cabrera would shift to left field once Jonnny Damon returns, something that could happen as soon as Sunday.

Strained Hammy, these can stick around..This may not be good at all for Matsui owners..

sigh. What happened to the whole Japanese Cal Ripken thing? Damn.

Pissing me off that the Yankees always have all types of crap happen in the beginning of the year.

H. Matsui taken out

As we know, Strained Hammys can linger, not sure we were going to see the 25 HR, 105 RBI, .300 Matsui this year anyways.. Maybe a 18 HR, 80 RBI, .280

He will be re-evaluated tomorrow, but when asked about it in a post game radio interview, Joe Torre said that he thought that Matsui would miss 3-5 games. I just read this on another website which seems to confirm that:

"Hideki Matsui strained his left hamstring running out a second-inning grounder and left in the fourth. Torre said he probably wouldn't play until Friday in Oakland."

I hope that time-line is accurate, and he's back by next weekend.
