I've got Dunn playing for Alou, and I certainly like what Pierre and Sosa are doing (Pierre is waking up ... Sosa is Sosa). Alou has seemed to wake up a bit, I played him yesterday when Pierre had an off day, and he rewarded me with RBIs. Still, Dunn has just gone berserk, should I continue riding this guy if Alou heats up?
Yes, I'd continue riding Dunn for now, although it's reassuring to have an Alou-caliber player on your bench in case one of those guys slips or gets hurt. For now, I'd definitely stick with Dunn; later in the season, you can rotate Pierre in and out, depending on whether you need steals or power, or simply exploit the Coors factor.
LOVE your outfield, by the way! (Ok, I may be just a tiny bit prejudiced, since I also have Sosa, Pierre and Dunn in one of my leagues...
I'd like to exploit the Coors factor, but it's almost as if they did something to the baseballs there! Juan Pierre didn't get an extra base-hit (dunno if he's gotten one YET), somehow.
I like how Dunn's given me 3 SBs that's just fun gravy. Pierre's steals are nice, but I may sit him sometimes (especially on the road), since I have Vina and Furcal doing some thieving for me.
Don't look now, but Alou seems to have all the right ingredients for a prolonged slump. He's recovering from an injury, he's starting slow despite being a notorious fast starter, and he's got absolutely no discipline at the plate. I wish I could count the number of times I've seen him come to bat after back-to-back walks to DeShields/Sosa or Sosa/McGriff and promptly wack the first pitch to the 2nd basemen for a double play.
I wouldn't drop him just on my say-so... because if he comes out of this, he could come out in a big way. I just wouldn't hold my breath. At least he's been good in the field, but I gasp everytime he dives for a ball, expecting him to break or pull something.
